First cutting for 2025!

Yummy! Not a large amount, but as these mature at different rates I wanted to cut the higher stalks before the heads opened and supplemented with the shorter ones. I might try storing some cuttings in the fridge to get larger portions; supposedly one can refrigerate these in a plastic bag for a couple of weeks.

Date: 2025-04-24 12:17 pm (UTC)My previous two beds, Jersey Giant in 2019 and and Mary Washington in 2020, have not done well, to the point I’ve all but given up on them. The whole garden has been underperforming the last couple of years so I’m trying to be more attentive to details this year.
And I bought these crowns online from an established, reputable company, but would recommend researching varieties and planting methods at online edu sites, and going to a trusted local nursery for crowns and advice.
