gardening update

Neighbor V and I spent three lovely hours doing gardening things. First, a trip to a really good, quite large nursery/garden center, where we purchased a large bag of potting soil, a creeping jenny plant, three different kinds of creeping thyme, and a couple of other things that we each wanted for our houseplants. When we got home with our loot, we:

--planted the thymes and creeping jenny

--filled the two planters (picked up yesterday) with the potting soil

--planted about ten strawberry roots in one of the planters; the other planter will have herbs. There are twenty "pockets" in each planter so we can grow plenty of different things, and there's room for more strawberries if we decide to do more of them.

--planted ten or twelve freesia bulbs in the raised bed

--likewise some ranunculus roots.

V had planted several plots of veg the other day--several kinds each of peas, carrots, beets, and radishes. We are saving the sunny spots for tomatoes. Now feeling grubby but happy.

Progress!

If nothing else, strawberries and any other herbs that 'run' can be added to the empty pockets. Just watch for a runner to get long enough and tuck it into the soil there.

I love the smell of freesias.
