decision on those mystery plants

Between the opinions of various people and of Google Images, I'm not sure if the mystery seedlings were bindweed aka wild morning glory, or regular morning glory. However, it's become irrelevant--I don't want either of them. They take over. I'd rather have my reclaimed space for what I want to grow. So I did a lot of weeding today and while it's not all gone, a good part of it is.

I hate getting rid of morning glory. Tried it in my old place so I'd have somewhere to grow things but gave up. It was everywhere and I simply didn't have the time and energy (or equipment) to bother.

I have never thought of bindweed as wild morning glory before. And this is kind of ironic as I'm bewailing the fact that all my morning glory flower seedlings died while pulling out armfuls of bindweed that is strangling half of the garden.

I quite like the look of bindweed flowers but it does just turn into a carpet over everything. I certainly don't hate it as much as the bright greenish yellow thing the previous owner planted at the bottom of the garden that is competing to take over the garden from the other end. I think it is possibly a hop.

Isn't "a weed" defined as "any plant you don't want in your garden"? If that's true then I have classed them as weeds regardless of what they are. :)

I got "wild morning glory" from one or two of the webpages I looked at.

Morning glory is officially classified as a weed here. You can't buy it, and I suspect that if they catch you planting it around here, then you'll get slapped with a fine.

It loves the Sydney environment and it grows rampant, and once it's in, you won't get it out. It's a zombie plant. I have a local friend who has to go around and yank out all the tendrils of morning glory growing through her deck regularly through spring and summer.

Yeah, I've been learning... the damn things are everywhere. Someone might have planted them in ages past, possibly to twine onto and thus cover the sight of an ugly wire fence. Lesson #1 for the beginning gardener: find out what's already growing in your garden plot before you start planning!

Essentially yes, a weed can be *any* plant growing where you don't want it. }:)
