the latest in my garden

We went to a hardware store/garden center yesterday and got a garden rake and a couple of tomato cages. The tomatoes and herbs are growing like... well... weeds. Unfortunately so are the actual weeds, mostly the bindweed and some seedlings from the neighbor's tree. The tree is right up against our fence and drops its seeds into my garden plot. I don't know what kind of tree it is, I just know I don't want its babies to take over my garden.
The Nice Neighbor Lady who has given me a couple of batches of plants from her garden gave me another batch yesterday. Too much, actually. I will try and salvage the lilies, but the rest of it I don't even know what it is. We happened to see her yesterday evening and she wasn't offended (I worry a lot about offending people) when I said, "Thank you so much, but I have all I can deal with now." She really is nice, so it's a good basis to be going on with.
Tasks for today: weed, chop up compacted soil with new rake, work in a fresh batch of garden soil (from the previous trip to garden center), and put in the tomato cages. Can't wait for fresh tomatoes!
