If collecting plants makes you happy, go for it.
I am more haphazard with both houseplants and garden plants. But then again, I have Gaia throwing random things into my yard that I don't have to pay for. Cup plants. Elderberries. Wild grape vines. :D

My grandmother grew African violets, but she was the only person we knew who could do that. Sadly none of them survived her by more than a month.
