Is your tetanus shot up to date?

I know, I should have asked you last month, but I'm asking you now. Is your tetanus shot up to date?

I'm pulling out some old woven-wire fencing in preparation for getting a new back fence. It has been there for decades. The lowest two strands got buried, and a lot of volunteer trees have grown up through it (sometimes the fence is now embedded in the tree), so I'm digging up and snipping off all these rusty bits of wire. And then I find the remains of two broken Mason jars that someone buried at the fenceline a long time ago. Kim chee, maybe? No way to tell. But I am glad my tetanus shot is up to date!

My tetanus shot is up to date! I got my tdap last month - the first time I'd ever had pertussis - and my MMR checked too, just in case. It's good peace of mind to have.

The guidelines have recently changed for most people! Once you have one at age 13, you don't need another one until age 50. If you have a risky wound, you get a prophylactic shot then.
