Your plant nemesis

We all have at least one. It's that plant that you try to grow and grow, but for some reason or another, it just dies or doesn't bloom or doesn't grow any vegetables.

What plant do you consider your nemesis?

The first year I grew a garden, my basil turned into amazing bushes nearly waist-high. And I thought, "Whoo, here's a plant I can rely on!"

Yeah, no. Ever since, basil has just sulked along and given me some weedy shoots. I am baffled.

Basil used to be a no-no for me in the garden.

This year? I'm finding sprouts of the damn stuff in my seedling boxes. What the eff?

(Backstory: last year, I bought a seedling clump from an organic grower at the markets, planted it in the ground, got basil, collected the seeds. Come spring this year, I just tossed seeds anywhere in the garden that looked like it was going to get a bit of sun. Then I bought a 'cut and come again' pot from the Big Chain Supermarkets around here, and planted it out in the garden. It is also doing amazingly well this year, with quite a bit of neglect - it needed some watering and shading back in mid-to-late spring, but it's still going great guns. So much so that I am overloaded with basil and really need to make some pesto and freeze the damn stuff.)
